<reviewbody>This is a pretty routine show for 1974, kind of like they were taking a break or something. It's a solid show, but not as groundbreaking as say 6/26 or even 8/4, or 8/6. What is interesting is how they touch on Nobody's Fault and Your Mind Has Left Your Body in quick succession during the Truckin' jam. You can hear that they're getting good at this type of jamming, almost too good. They didn't play very many shows in 74, and they may have been getting just the tiniest bit bored at times. Still a good show from a young G.D. Great AUD by Bertrando, of course. Worth a listen. You can really hear how Seastones was so much louder on the P.A. than when they were just playing their set, it's kind of funny. Must have been mind-blowing in person, if not ear-splitting.</reviewbody>

<reviewbody>This is one of the best aud recordings i have ever heard....especially from the pre-digital era. Not too much crowd noise but lots of DEAD! Even the bass comes in clear which is rare for audience recordings from this era!

Not usually a big fan of early 70's aud's, but this one is sick sick sick!</reviewbody>

<reviewbody>Ignore that dude below that says the Dead are bored at this show, for real. the Playin>WR>Truckin (small cut)>Playin is every bit as sick as it looks, and the sound here is quite listenable!! summer at the hollywood bowl in 74..... makes my mouth water!!!
Seriously..the Playin is SOOO on point!! The Nobody's Fault jam is about 15 seconds long, also, FYI.....</reviewbody>

<reviewbody>Really nice sounding audience recording. Some funny banter around the taper ("hey where's the roach clip"?), but nothing too distracting. Everyone quiets down when the jams start in earnest.

Scarlet ends with a faded-out cut while they're still hard at it which is a little painful.

Maybe not the best show of the summer, but certainly worth a listen.</reviewbody>

    <reviewbody>FYI -

There is a complete show version of this date, with this source patched from a previously uncirculated source by Charlie Miller:

http://db.etree.org/shninfo_detail.php?shnid=31436

UPDATE: The complete show version is now available to download from this site at:

or simply click on the left just under where it says "Other Copies".

Thus the new version does not have the "painful" aspect mentioned by the previous reviewer ! :)</reviewbody>

<reviewbody>This recording rules, particularly for those of us searching for nice audience tapes after the fall of the soundboards. I think this recording gives an idea of the Wall of Sound sound that the SBDs can't touch. The best AUD I have found is Frost '82. Check that one out.

<reviewbody>Awesome- maybe because we are sso spoiled with so many good 74 shows- but do not overlook this one- from the China Rider out it is just wonderful- the PITB goes to interesting places- like many in 74- but at this show it sort of makes more sense than many others- and then the sweet segue into wharf rat- wow</reviewbody>

<reviewbody>The China Rider is a typical 74, though perhaps a bit faster than most. The Playin' sequence is the STUFF!! Someone already mentioned the segue into Wharf Rat, but how about the segue from Nobody's Fault back into Playin'? Outside of a nasty patch in Truckin' (~ 20-30 sec speedy and muffled), the sound quality is A1, the overwhelming volume and clarity of the Wall of Sound allowing for an excellent aud. </reviewbody>
